Network meet up - for creative networks - 5/5/10

29 April, 2010 - 13:32

ARK invite

After a recent blog post about creativity in Cardiff and Wales and networking, it has been suggested that a meet up to discuss a possible overall programme of events and looking into working together to show the strength and vibrancy of creativity in Wales and Cardiff could be looked at. As we have a regular meet up on Wednesday evenings at Cardiff Arts Institute we are hoping to be able to meet anyone interested in this subject from around 7pm next wednesday 5/5/10 to see if we can do anything together? If you are interested then please come along. Also if you feel someone else also should come to the meet up then please pass on the invitation.

thanks again and I hope to see you all next week

Thanks Julian I really enjoyed the meeting it was interesting to find out about other networks, make a few new friends and be involved in a positive move towards working together.

What will be the next step? Will ARK be publishing the outcome of the meeting?

I can not believe how much is happening in Cardiff let alone the rest of Wales. I think someone on the night described it as an 'Cultural Explosion' which was pretty apt seeing all the networks mapped out on the wall!

The other discussion that stood out was how the different networks 'compliment not compete' co-working together to form critical mass without losing individual identity. It was also agreed that smaller quirky networks were as important as the bigger more commercial ones. To me it seemed that the important factor was knowledge of what was out there and being able to pick and choose networks and events to suit you.

I totally agree and during the night I had a few conversations about how there's a fuzzy line between networks in Design, Arts, Crafts, Music and Theatre. As a member of the creative sector I'm interested in all these, but just don't have the chance to commit on a weekly basis, I also live quite a commute from the city, which makes it equally difficult.

Perhaps a coherent events list as suggested on the night would allow for a woolworths style pick and mix on a weekly and daily basis for events to attend, but also gain and share knowledge between the networks, this would allow simple things like double bookings for important events to be worked out.

Will ARK be holding any further meetings surrounding creative networks? Or has it yet to be discussed within the group?

Once we have mapped the networks that were brought up in the meeting we will be publishing the results with an aim of gaining further people to contribute with their own events and networks to make it as large as possible. We are very much aware that we only touched a very small area of the market and so we need to get as broad an idea of what is out there as possible.

Once we have that we should be able to start linking people together with the aim of gaining exposure and collaboration.
